Date: Tuesday, September 17
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Location: Wild Mountain, 1831 Maple Ave. S. Sooke, BC, V9Z 0N9 Join us at Wild Mountain for a lively evening celebrating the principles of the Slow Food movement and supporting our local delegates' journey to Terra Madre in Italy! Our Taco Party will feature delicious food, great company, and an opportunity to learn more about sustainable dining practices. (cash and debit is preferred so we avoid the cc fees!) Event Highlights: - Counter Service Taco Party: Enjoy a selection of tacos made from locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients that align with Slow Food principles. Our chefs have crafted unique fillings, including vegetarian / vegan / gluten-free / dairy-free options, to showcase the best of what our region has to offer. Tacos will be available for purchase until we sell out. We are grateful to collaborate with Chef Israel of Maiiz Tortilleria in Victoria for this event. - Local Beverages: Pair your tacos with a variety of local craft beers, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages, all available for purchase. Support local producers while enjoying delicious drinks! - Silent Auction: Participate in our silent auction featuring a diverse array of items and experiences donated by local businesses and artisans. All proceeds from the auction will go to Slow Food Vancouver Island to support our causes like sending our local delegates to Terra Madre 2024: Emily Sutherland and Patrick Gale. They will be studying Italian school food systems amongst so many other educational workshops and experiences, enriching our community upon their return. - Learn About Slow Food: Discover more about the Slow Food movement, a global initiative dedicated to preserving local food cultures, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring that food is good, clean, and fair for everyone. Learn how you can incorporate these principles into your own life and community. - Meet Local Food Advocates: Connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about sustainable food systems and community well-being. Hear from Emily Sutherland, our Bar Manager and a dedicated volunteer with the Sooke Food Bank and Meals on Wheels, as she shares her experiences and passion for Slow Food. - Community & Conversation: Enjoy a relaxed, festive atmosphere where you can mingle with fellow food enthusiasts, exchange ideas, and build a stronger community around the values of sustainability and local food systems. Why Support This Cause? Emily Sutherland, our dedicated Bar Manager and a committed advocate for food security, along with other local delegates, has been selected to attend Terra Madre in Italy, an international conference focused on sustainable food systems and Slow Food practices. This is a unique opportunity for our community representatives to gain valuable knowledge and bring back innovative ideas to benefit our local food systems. All proceeds from the event, including the silent auction, will go directly to Slow Food Vancouver Island and a portion of that will help fund the travel and conference expenses for Emily and other delegates. **No Tickets Required!** No Reservations Needed!** Please come by Wild Mountain on September 17 from 6-8pm and join in the fun! Tacos and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the evening. All proceeds from food sales and the silent auction will support Slow Food Vancouver Island's efforts to send delegates to Terra Madre. Can't Attend? If you’re unable to join us but still want to support our local delegates, consider making a donation directly to Slow Food Vancouver Island by e-transfer to [email protected] or consider buying a Slow Food membership: https://www.slowfood.com/join-the-slow-food-movement/ Come enjoy a night of delicious food, engaging conversations, and a shared commitment to good, clean, and fair food. Let’s celebrate the Slow Food movement together!

It’s been very validating to hear from so many colleagues and guests that these honours are well deserved. To be completely transparent, we don’t really think restaurants can be compared. Each one is such a unique reflection of the people who make and serve the food. Every restaurant is a microcosm of its community and its flavours. We need all different kinds of restaurants to be all different kinds of places. So we really see this as an acknowledgment that we are doing our gosh darn best. That we are the best versions of ourselves that we can be. And that we have created something that has resonated with all of you. And that means the world to us.
Wild Mountain would not exist without the staff that keeps this mini beast alive. Nurtured since September of 2015 by our incredible Sous Chef Scooty and his partner who gives our food a place to shine @wickedwandapottery It takes an incredible effort to make everything in-house from scratch, and joining Chefs Oliver and Scooty are Chef de Cuisine Teves @rulkanbetty Fire Chef Max @popgrimes and two new and integral additions Chefs Sunny and Lucan. We’ve been so lucky to work with so many talented chefs over the years. We are so grateful to have worked with such a fantastic mix of people in the front of house over the years. We miss so many of you! If you’ve been in lately then you’ve no doubt been sipping delicious cocktails by Emily @emsuthwhateva and served by a dynamic team of the loveliest people led by our FOH manager Nathan. Thank you for spending time with us: @margauxbpottery @clesire Isabelle, Charlotte, Lily and Natalia. With support from two champion teens: Taylor out front and Myah rocking the pit. It was so special to share this night with Producer of the Year @saanichorganics which is also Robin and Sasha from Metchosin’s @seablufffarm who supply the restaurant year round with an incredible array of fruits and vegetables.
